Whats the deal with rubbing your motorcycle engine?

Is it an ego boost to rub your motorcycle’s engine? Do people realize it irritates other people or do they know that and do it for that reason.

On another note, doesnt it seem dumb that motorcycle gangs can harrass people with linked chains when the person in the car can just swerve into them? lol.
Oops, perhaps I didnt word it right. By rubbing the engine I mean “flooring” it although I have seen people rub their motorcycles too. It bothers me because it is very very loud and not very pleasant.

It’ kind of like preening your self in the mirror!!! OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN…….
